Homecoming football games are made for upsets and Prescott hopes it can happen for them as take on No. 6 ranked Durand tonight at Laney Field. Kick-off is at 7 p.m.
Durand is 5-0 and torched then unbeaten Osceola 44-6 last week. Their single wing offense is powered by big group of linemen and the athleticism of backs like Jake Weber, who has rushed for 656 yards and eight touchdowns and thrown for 267 yards and three TD's, T.J. Auth and Jake Biesterveld along with wide receiver Drew Minturn.
"We'll have a tough challenge this week with an undefeated Durand team coming to town, ranked sixth overall in the state," PHS head coach Matt Smith said. "If we play with a level of intensity and focus similar to the B-W game, it'll be a great game."
A game of ball control with no or very few mistakes will give the 3-2 Cardinals their best chance of winning. The game will be Prescott's last home contest of the regular season.
Prescott needs to win two out of its last three Middle Border Conference ballgames to clinch a playoff spot. So does Ellsworth. The Panthers, still smarting from an awful 14-7 Homecoming loss to New Richmond, plays at Osceola Friday. Next Friday is the Hwy. 10 showdown between Ellsworth and Prescott.
Also in the area tonight, Spring Valley needs two wins in the next two week to get back to the playoffs starting with Boyceville on the road. EPC already picked up a win with Cornell's forfeit. The team will play an exhibition game against a co-op team of Cadott and Cornell upperclassmen in Cornell. The next game which counts for EPC is next Friday at Lake Holcombe which the team absolutely has to win just to qualify for playoff consideration.
