SPRING VALLEY - Spring Valley High School's girls cross country team, ranked No. 13 in the state was near-perfect in winning its own invitational meet Thursday.
The Cardinals finished with 16 points, one-point away from a perfect 15 score. Six of their runners hads personal best times on the 4000-meter course on a beautiful fall afternoon.
Liz Anderson and Breanna Colbenson finished together in the chutes with Anderson hundreths of a second faster for first place. Riley Bowman was third, Sara King fourth and Emma Gaustad sixth for the Cardinals.
Valley's boys team was second behind St. Croix Central 30-60. Julian Manley finished second for Valley in a time of 18:22.
Both EPC's boys and girls teams placed fourth. McKayla Brunner had the girls squad best finish in ninth place at 17:33 while Noah Wells finished seventh for EPC in boys in 18:42.
Both teams will compete in the Amery Invitational next Tuesday. Both Spring Valley teams will compete in the Griak Invitational Saturday at the University of Minnesota's Les Bolstad Golf Course in St. Paul.
