Sunday State Sports Briefs: Packers look for win against winless Saints
Wisconsin Sports-- The struggling Green Bay Packers will have to put their anger over a final-play call last Monday night aside if they want to rescue a disintegrating season. Green Bay hosts the equally-disappointing New Orleans Saints at Lambeau Field this afternoon. Kickoff is set for 3:25 p.m.
GREEN BAY - The struggling Green Bay Packers will have to put their anger over a final-play call last Monday night aside if they want to rescue a disintegrating season. Green Bay hosts the equally-disappointing New Orleans Saints at Lambeau Field this afternoon. Kickoff is set for 3:25 p.m.
The Pack is coming off a 14-12 loss to Seattle on a hotly-disputed final play touchdown. If Green Bay is to get back to the .500 mark, it will have to do so on a short week against a Saints team suffering through troubles of its own. New Orleans’ record is 0-3, while the Packers are 1-2. Both teams averaged more than 34 points a game last season and both are significantly off that production this time. The Packers won last year’s game against the Saints, 42-34.

Two goals in the first period by senior Brianna Decker got the University of Wisconsin women’s hockey team off to a strong start Saturday at Mankato, Minnesota. But, it was three freshmen working together who scored the winner in a 3-2 victory over Minnesota State. Video review negated two other possible Badger scores. Decker’s pair of goals had the Badgers up 2-1 going into the final frame. Freshmen Erika Sowchuk, Molly Doner and Kim Drake worked together around the net, with Drake pushing what would be the eventual winner across. Wisconsin outshot Minnesota State 39-18 and emerged with a record of 1-0-1. UW travels to Lindenwood for two games next weekend.
