No. 1 Gophers women's hockey team makes toothpaste out of Colgate

MINNEAPOLIS - Already down 6-0 after two periods Colgate gave up five more goals in the third period for an 11-0 rout at the hands of the nation's top-ranked women's college hockey team.

The University of Minnesota completed the season opening sweep Saturday afternoon at Ridder Arena.

Four players scored two goals each for the Golden Gophers in Amanda Kessel, Hannah Brandt, Maryanne Menefee and Meghan Lorence. Brandt had three assists, Kessel had two, Menefee had and Lorence had two assists also. Rachel Bona led Minnesota with four assists.

Amanda Levellie started in goal for the U and finished with 21 saves.

Minnesota begins WCHA play next weekend at St. Cloud State.
