Ellsworth Village Board approves plans for new McDonald's

The board made the decision to support the recommendation of the Plan Commission at its monthly meeting Monday evening. All members were present.
The board approved the final CSM for the site along with a site plan, a building plan and signage. The developer, Dan Acker of Stanley, said he plans to close on the property on Wednesday. The site will feature a McDonald's restaurant along with an additional retail space as well.
The board also unanimously approved a Plan Commission recommendation to approve an expansion plan for Kaufhold's Kurds on 440 N. Maple St. The plan calls for the construction of a 44x48-foot addition with a 8x20 freezer. The storage trailer currently on the property has been removed and plans are being made to re-route excess water from the driveway.
A Plan Commission recommendation to approved a contract with Midwest testing to conduct the cross-connection control program was also approved unanimously.
The problems at the village's waste water treatment plant were discussed. It was reported to the board at its last monthly meeting that cracks, leakage and other construction problems were found with one of the holding tanks as part of a renovation of the plant. The board agreed to a Water and Sewer Committee recommendation to hire an independent engineer to review the corrections made by Rice Lake Construction demanded by the board and to have this engineer consult with the committee and the full board.
Other committee recommendations unanimously adopted by the full board included putting in new outlets and wiring located on the bathroom building and log cabin in East End Park to cut down on the use of generators for Cheese Curd Fest or any other festivals; grant a temporary Class B license the Ellsworth Sesquicentennial Celebration Committee for a dedication ceremony in East End Park on Oct. 14; putting open for bid the village's garbage/recycling service and approval of the establishment of a separate fund for capital equipment and repairs.
The board went into closed session to discuss the assisted living project off Hwy. 65, the Legion property development and the wastewater treatment plant and but took no action after coming out of it.
