Minnesota will now play Los Angeles in the Western Conference Finals, beginning tomorrow. Seattle's Lauren Jackson missed a shot as time was expiring that would have won the contest for the Storm. Lynx star Seimone Augustus scored 21 points, her teammate Maya Moore poured in 20, but Rebekkah Brunson was the player with the most impact. She pushed through 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the win.

The Timberwolves held their first practice of training camp in Mankato yesterday. The revamped Wolves enter the upcoming campaign looking to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2004. Minnesota opens preseason play a week from today with the regular season opener set for November 2nd.

Toronto's Kelly Johnson hit a two-run homer as the Blue Jays held off the Twins 4-3 last night in Toronto. Rajai Davis and Yunel Escobar singled in runs for the Jays, who have won the first two in the three-game set. Chad Jenkins went five-plus innings to earn his first win. Casey Janssen notched his 22nd save. Denard Span drilled a two-run homer for Minnesota. Anthony Swarzak allowed all four runs in five innings to fall to 3-6.

The 3-and-1 Minnesota Vikings will be back on the practice field later today. The coaching staff will begin implementing this week's gameplan for Tennessee. The Titans visit the Metrodome on Sunday. The Vikes beat Detroit last week, while Tennessee fell to 1-and-3 with a loss to Houston last Sunday. This week's game begins at noon at the Metrodome.

Former Viking and current Ravens Center Matt Birk says his opposition to same sex marriage won't interfere with his game. Birk, a St. Paul native, is planning to film a video this week to defend marriage for the Catholic Church. He's the second member of the Ravens to voice an opinion on the issue. Meanwhile, his Baltimore teammate Brendon Ayanbadejo says he supports same-sex marriage. Vikings punter Chris Kluwe also supports same-sex marriage.

The University of Minnesota football team is off this weekend, but will still be practicing this week. Head coach Jerry Kill will put his team through lighter workouts on today, tomorrow, and Thursday this week, before getting into next week and game preparation for a homecoming date against Northwestern on October 13th. Minnesota is 4-and-1 on the season, suffering its first loss of the year at Iowa this past Saturday.

There is still no progress in NHL labor negotiations after the league and Players Association met for two hours on Tuesday. The two sides met for three straight days Friday, Saturday and Sunday before taking a break on Monday for internal discussions. The splitting of hockey-related revenue remains the key sticking point in reaching a new collective bargaining agreement. No new talks are scheduled. The owners locked out the players after the previous CBA expired September 15th. The entire preseason slate has already been canceled. The regular season is scheduled to begin October 11th.
