EHS spikers top Durand 3-2

The Ellsworth High School volleyball team finally pulled out the close win they had been looking for all season by beating Durand 3-2 Tuesday evening.

DURAND - The Ellsworth High School volleyball team finally pulled out the close win they had been looking for all season by beating Durand 3-2 Tuesday evening.

EHS won close contests in Games 1 and 3 by 25-23 scores. After taking a 16-25 loss in Game 4, Ellsworth came on to roll-up their Hwy. 10 East rivals by 15-11 score in Game 5.

Riley Harrison was the team leader in digs with 27 while Chelsey Strom and Olivia Helmer each had 19. Kenzie Diercks had a powerful game with 11 kills to lead EHS to go with two blocks and three aces. Megan Schroeder led Ellsworth with five aces and made 10 assists and 13 digs. Harrison also had eight kills,one block and an ace; Helmer finished with 27 assists, eight kills and three aces and Morgan Christopherson 14 digs, eight kills and three aces.

Ellsworth improves to 7-14 overall and 2-4 in the Middle Border Conference. They will play in a tournament in Cannon Falls, Minn. this weekend before wrapping up league play next Tuesday vs. Amery.
