MADISON - The University of Wisconsin football team is looking for a receiver to step up and be a strong partner with fellow wide-out Jared Abbrederis.
The redshirt junior leads the Badgers with 20 receptions and four touchdown catches in his first five games. He also has 388 receiving yards – much more than the next three receivers on the list combined. Jordan Fredrick, Kenzel Doe, and Jeff Duckworth have a total of 217 receiving yards, 22 catches, and no TD’s.
Redshirt sophomore Chase Hammond is also in the mix – especially after he caught a leaping pass for a 30-yard gain in last weekend’s Badger loss at Nebraska. Hammond has had lingering problems with an ankle and a thumb during his two-plus-years with the Badgers. Most of those problems stemmed from injuries when he was in high school in Ohio. Offensive coordinator Matt Canada says Hammond has been practicing more – and he’s making the most of his opportunity.
The 3-2 Badgers host 2-3 Illinois on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ABC.
