Twins end regular season with a loss

TORONTO - Toronto's Brandon Morrow struck out 11 batters through eight innings of one-run ball to lead the Blue Jays to a 2-1 win over the Twins last night in Toronto.

Morrow allowed just three hits and three walks to improve to 10-and-7. Brandon Lyon closed it out to nail down his first save. Rajai Davis and Adeiny Hechavarria each drove in a run for Toronto, which swept the three-game series at the Rogers Centre to end the season at 73-89. Matt Carson plated Minnesota's only run of the game on a fourth-frame fielder's choice.

Scott Diamond gave up both runs during five frames of duty to suffer the tough-luck loss for the Twins, who dropped five straight games to end in the American League Central Division cellar at 66-96.

The first son of Oakland A's pitcher Pat Neshek died just 23 hours after he was born. Neshek, who is from Park Center, revealed the news on his Twitter account, saying there was no explanation for his death. Neshek left the A's on Tuesday to be with his wife, Stephanee, who went into labor. He wasn't with the team as they celebrated their AL West title on Wednesday. Neshek pitched for the Twins from 2006-10.

Detoit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera ends an amazing season by capturing the first Triple Crown in Major League Baseball in 45 years. Cabrera ended the regular season leading the American League with a .330 batting average, 44 home runs and 139 RBI. Cabrera becomes the second Tiger to win the Triple Crown after Ty Cobb earned the honor in 1909 and the first since Boston Red Sox Carl Yastrzemski accomplished the feat in 1967.
