The Wisconsin men’s hockey team scored in every period while blanking the U.S. Under-18 team 5-0 at the Kohl Center in a Saturday exhibition game in front of 7,500 fans. Five different Badgers found the back of the net and Joel Rumpel and Landon Peterson combined on the shutout. The top returning scorer from last year’s team, Mark Zengerle, got the Badgers on the board in the first period. Other goals were scored by freshman defense man Kevin Schultze, freshman forward Morgan Zulnick, sophomore forward Brendan Woods and junior defense man Chase Drake. Drake had only been on the ice in two games before last night, but he added two assists to his third-period goal. The Badgers start a month-long road trip next weekend at Green Bay’s Resch Center against Northern Michigan.
Eleven different players scored points as the Wisconsin women’s hockey team completed its weekend sweep of Lindenwood with a 9-1 rout Saturday in St. Louis. Alev Kelter led the way with a hat-trick and four points. Brianna Decker had a hat trick in Friday’s first game of the weekend. She added another goal and two assists Saturday, becoming the fifth Badger to produce 200 points. Madison Packer had two goals. Wisconsin scored three goals in each quarter while improving its record to 3-0-1. The Badgers outshot the Missouri team 56-17. Wisconsin plays on the road against next weekend with a series against Minnesota-Duluth.
