Deciding to get all the options on the table, the Pierce County Law Enforcement Committee is asking for another jail assessment study.
During its monthly meeting last Thursday, the committee suggested hiring DLR Architects to determine the cost of remodelling the jail and constructing a building off the Sheriff’s Department that would house just the dispatch center. The proposal now goes to the Finance and Personnel Committee then to the full County Board.
The cost is not to exceed $2,500 with the money coming from the Jail Assessment Fund.
That request has been at the top of the list for years when the state inspects the jail, said Sheriff Nancy Hove.
“All the information needs to be there,” said committee member Ken Snow. “And it needs to be accurate. We have to take a look at the whole process.”
Inspector Brad Hompe addressed the committee ahead of the approval and suggested other items the state would like to see changed.
“It’s not a secret, but I don’t have any good news,” he said. “You know you had the problems, but haven’t done anything about it.”
