Come June, Ellsworth’s first McDonald’s will open, says a developer who also has restaurants in several other towns.

“It won’t be open until June, sometime in June,” said Dan Acker Friday. “It may be the first of June, it may be the end of June, but it will be in June.”

He and his wife, Phyllis, function as the developers. They bought the land and will own the building but do not manage the restaurants, said Acker.

“We are the landlords,” he said.

During its Oct. 1 meeting, the Ellsworth Village Board unanimously approved plans for the McDonald’s on the Midway property owned by the American Legion. Two days later, the Ackers closed on the property and by the end of the week had started demolition work.

Acker said he will build a 4,500 sq. ft. building that will also include retail space for lease. He said this type of McDonald’s, which does not include a Playland, is called “a small town retail.”

The restaurant will have double drive-through lanes. There will be an entrance and exit off Hwy. 10 and both exit and entrance lanes off Piety, said Ellsworth Zoning Administrator Greg Engeset.
