Ellsworth loses final game of season

In its final game of the season, Ellsworth could not play spoiler against the Middle Border Conference’s top team, falling to Durand 35-18 at Wayne Field.

DURAND - In its final game of the season, Ellsworth could not play spoiler against the Middle Border Conference’s top team, falling to Durand 35-18 at Wayne Field.

Ellsworth (2-6, 2-5 Middle Border) struck first when Dennis Schutz connected with Nick Taranto with a 25-yard touchdown pass. Ellsworth held a 6-0 lead before Durand went up 7-6 later in the quarter.

No. 2 ranked Durand (8-0, 7-0 Middle Border) increased its lead to 14-6 following an interception return for a touchdown. Before halftime, Durand tacked on two more rushing touchdowns. The MBC champs cemented the victory with a 29-yard touchdown pass.

Late in the fourth quarter, Ellsworth punched in a pair of scores with a six-yard touchdown run by Evan Klawitter, and a 25-yard touchdown catch for Taranto from Emery Whalen.
