The No. 2 ranked Golden Gopher men's team routed Michigan State 5-1 in its season opener at Mariucci Arena. Eric Bjugstad had a goal and an assists and Zach Budish had two assists for the U. Goalie Michael Shibrowski made 25 saves.
Amanda Kessel scored two goals and an assist as the No. 1 ranked Minnesota women's team shutout St. Lawrence 5-0 in Canton, N.Y. Megan Bozek had two assists. Minnesota goalie Noora Raty made 27 saves.
