CHICAGO - The Milwaukee Bucks lost their first exhibition game last night, 100-94 at Chicago.

Rookie forward John Henson hyper-extended his left knee – but it looked worse when he fell to the floor late in the third period. Henson, Milwaukee’s first-round draft choice, will have another exam today. The Bucks were down by 10 going into the final quarter. They got to within three with 2:47 left, when Chicago put the game away with a jump shot by Nate Robinson and two free throws from Rip Hamilton. Robinson had 24 points and 13 assists as he started in place of Kirk Hinrich, who was out with a knee injury. Hamilton scored 23, and Bulls’ center Joakim Noah had 16 points and 12 rebounds. The Bucks were out-shot 47-to-42 percent, and coach Scott Skiles said it was the first game in which his team was not competitive. Mike Dunleavy and Samuel Dalembert each had 13 points off the bench. Bucks’ starter Brandon Jennings also scored 13, despite a sore big right toe that he’s playing through. Dalembert added 10 rebounds and three blocked shots. Chicago only committed 14 turnovers, after averaging 22 in its previous three exhibitions. The Bucks’ pre-season record fell to 2-1. They’ll play the Memphis Grizzlies tomorrow night in La Crosse.

Prince Fielder has not exactly been Mister October – but he doesn’t have to be, because his Detroit Tigers are just one win away from their first World Series since 2006. The Tigers edged the New York Yankees 2-to-1 at home last night, to take a three-games-to-none lead in the American League Championship Series. Fielder, the former Milwaukee All-Star, went 0-for-3 with a walk as his post-season batting average fell to .182. Delmon Young hit a solo homer, and Miguel Cabrera belted an RBI double to give the Tigers the only offense they needed. Justin Verlander improved to 3-0 in the post-season, but his streak of 23 straight scoreless innings ended in the ninth when Eduardo Nunez hit a lead-off solo homer. The Tigers will go for a sweep of the best-of-seven ALCS tonight. Ex-Brewer C.C. Sabathia starts for New York against Detroit’s Max Scherzer. Meanwhile, Game-Three of the National League title series is set for this afternoon in Saint Louis. The Cardinals and San Francisco are tied at a game apiece.

The UW-Milwaukee men’s soccer team improved to 5-0 at home yesterday, with a 2-0 shutout of Nebraska-Omaha. Aaron Horvat scored one of the goals and assisted on the other. Laurie Bell scored the other goal, as the Panthers improved to 7-4-2. Milwaukee remains unbeaten in its last five matches at 3-0-and-2.

Four members of the University of Wisconsin men's and women's swim teams have earned weekly conference honors from the Big Ten. Senior Dan Lester was named the men’s swimmer-of-the-week, after he won both the 100-and-200-yard butterfly in dual meets against UW-Milwaukee and UW-Green Bay. He also anchored a pair of medley relay squads. Badgers’ freshman Logan Knauss was named the Big Ten’s diver-of-the-week, after winning both the one-and-three-meter events against Green Bay. John Bushmann was named the league’s freshman-of-the-week, after taking first in both the 100-and-200-freestyle against Milwaukee. Wisconsin sophomore Ivy Martin was named the Big Ten women’s co-swimmer of the week, with first-place finishes in the 50-and-100-yard freestyle against both Green Bay and Milwaukee. Both Badger teams are 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Big Ten. Both UW teams will swim against Minnesota this Friday starting at noon at the U of M Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.

Alex Adams and Robbie Flom, both of UW-River Falls, and Joel Sweeney of Eau Claire are the WIAC’s football players-of-the-week. Sweeney, a junior running back, rushed for 185 yards and three touchdowns in Eau Claire’s 24-9 win over La Crosse. Sweeney had 112 yards in the first quarter alone. Adams, a junior safety, had three interceptions and a half-sack in River Falls’ 26-15 victory over Stevens Point. Flom, a freshman kick returner, ran a kickoff back 93 yards for a touchdown for River Falls.

Christy Cazolla of U-W Oshkosh received her third honor in the last four weeks in women’s cross country, while Tim Nelson of Stout received the men’s award for the second time this fall. The W-I-A-C also recognized Logan Fye and Josh Rohde, both of Whitewater, in men’s soccer – Alyssa Manor and Cassie Stang, both of River Falls, in women’s soccer – Kelsey Nobilio of Whitewater in women’s volleyball – Mary Frasseto of Eau Claire in women’s singles’ tennis – and Makayla Newberry and Hannah Klimek of River Falls in doubles’ tennis.
