Plum City, Prescott move on in WIAA volleyball tournament

Both the Plum City and Prescott prep volleyball teams will move on to the semifinals of their respective WIAA regional tournaments after winning their first round matches Tuesday evening.

PC, the No. 3 seed in its Division 4 tournament bracket downed No. 14 seed Weston in a 3-0 sweep and Prescott, the No. 6 seed, beat No. 11 Durand 3-1.

The Devils swept the Silver Eagles 25-11, 25-10 and 25-14 led by Marah Boyer's 11 kills, seven digs and six blocks. Sarah Gilles had season-high 10 kills to go with seven digs; Ashlie Miller has 14 assists and teammate Shelby Kannel put in 13 assists; Heather Von Holtum led Plum City with two aces while Cheyenne Catura had one one ace.

Prescott took Games 1 and 2 vs. Durand 25-18 and 26-24. The Cardinals survived a 24-26 loss in Game 3 to whip the Panthers 25-15 in Game 4.

Plum City will host No. 5 seeded Gilmanton on Thursday while Prescott is at No. 3 seed Fall Creek. Both matches are at 7 p.m. The winners will play in the regional finals scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m.

Other Pierce County teams were eliminated last night. Ellsworth was beaten in straight sets 13-25, 15-25, 13-25 by Somerset in Division 2. Spring Valley lost 3-1 to Boyceville in Division 3 and Elmwood was swept 3-0 by the state's No. 3 ranked team Owen-Withee.
