Ex-Spring Valley care center future uncertain

SPRING VALLEY—The fate of the former Spring Valley Health Care Center was discussed by the local village board earlier this month.
The future of the facility is still being decided, the board heard. Anticipating the end of the agreement with a potential tenant, the board agreed to the tenant's wish to remove her name from the agreement.
In addition, the board learned the condition of the facility has deteriorated with a severe mold infestation. The cost to recover the building appears to be prohibitive, though Village Administrator Rita Goveronski will speak with government agencies regarding potential funding for rehabilitation of the structure.
Trustee Dale Jacobson recommended winterizing the building and turning off the heat. Public Works Director Tim Howe urged the board to hire professionals who could guarantee the pipes could be usable again in the spring.
