Plum City spikers make regional finals, Prescott falls

Plum City High School volleyball team will get another crack at Cochrane-Fountain City and the regional championship this Saturday.
Plum City made short work of Gilmanton Thursday evening in the Division 4 regional semifinals at Plum City. The Blue Devils swept aside the Panthers, 14-10 overall, 25-11, 25-22 and 25-15.
PC played one of its best matches in weeks in the 4-5 seed match-up. Marah Boyer led the Devils in kills with 12 while Sarah Gilles finished with nine. Boyer was also the team's top blocker with with five and tops in digs too with 10 while Gilles had seven. Heather Von Holtum had two aces and two blocks. Ashlie Miller made 20 assists and Shelby Kannel had five.
The top-seeded Pirates defeated No. 8 Wonewoc-Center last evening by a 3-1 score. PC lost last fall in the regional finals to C-FC by a 3-1 score. Saturday's contest is at 7 p.m. at C-FC. Plum City, 24-12 overall, is playing for its first regional championship since 2006. The Pirates, 28-6 overall, have won several Dairyland Conference championships in a row and have won the regional championship three years in a row. C-FC defeated PC earlier this season by a 2-1 score.
Prescott, meanwhile, lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at Fall Creek. The Cardinals led the match 2-1 when the Crickets came back to win Game 4 by a 25-15 score, then went on a 12-4 run in Game 5 to win 15-11. Fall Creek improves to 30-6 overall and plays No. 10 ranked Arcadia in the regional finals Saturday while PHS, the Middle Border Conference co-champs, finishes its season with a 24-22 overall record.
Kayla Lytle led Prescott with two aces. Team leaders in kills were Anna Weiser with 15, Lauren Bieter with 12, Kellie Magee with nine, Kate Kroska with eight. Lytle made 30 assists and Emily bayer had 12. Bieter and Bayer each had 14 blocks and leading the Cardinals in digs were Kroska with 24 and Katy Syverson with 23.
