Organizers of the Gift Box Program are committed to making sure the area’s needy families don’t go without gifts at Christmastime.

The Gift Box Program is almost as much of a tradition in Pierce County as opening gifts for Christmas is itself.

The county’s human services department operated the program in the 1960s, followed by the county’s hunger prevention council in the 1990s. This holiday season will mark the fourth year CrossRoad Community Church, just west of Ellsworth, has been in charge.

Organizers are committed to making sure the area’s needy families don’t go without gifts at Christmastime. Angel Anderson of the church heads the effort, joined by Jill Whalen and Roxanne Hewitt, and many other volunteers.
