Things have brightened up for a Minnesota couple who are spending this month on a boat trip down the Mississippi River.
Dawn Brodey and Andrew Melby of Saint Paul encountered tight lock-and-dam traffic on the Wisconsin border – along with cold, rainy weather. But the weather warmed up nicely by the time they got to Missouri. When they docked overnight in Hannibal, they encountered warm people as well. An Iowa man, among others, brought them fresh vegetables for their trip downstream. Brodey and Melby says they’re not experienced boaters – but they’ve had fun going down the Mighty Mississippi on their little boat named “The Road.”
They plan to make it past New Orleans to the Gulf of Mexico by Halloween – a week from tomorrow.
