The few changes in the final 2012-13 budget since the district’s annual meeting are mostly technical, Superintendent Barry Cain told the Ellsworth School Board in special session Monday.

The total school levy in the final budget, which was approved by the board, is $8,357,158. That’s down slightly from the $8,385,766 projected at the annual meeting in August. The final levy figure represents a 2.88 percent decrease from last year’s budget levy total of $8,597,688.

Cain reminded board members the actual effects of the levy, which was certified by the board Monday, vary from municipality to municipality in the district because of percentages of contribution. He also emphasized only $500,000 of the $1.3 million authorized in a referendum for each of three years is again being used instead.

“We promised the taxpayers if it wasn’t needed, we wouldn’t use it,” he said.
