Appleton man sentenced to 30 years for burglaries in Iowa
Wisconsin News-- An Appleton man will spend up to 30 years in prison for committing a series of burglaries in neighboring Iowa.
ORANGE CITY, Iowa - An Appleton man will spend up to 30 years in prison for committing a series of burglaries in neighboring Iowa.
49-year-old Daniel DeTaege pleaded guilty in Orange City to three counts of burglary – but authorities say he could be responsible for over two dozen break-ins in Iowa and Minnesota. Court officials in Sioux County said DeTaege was sentenced yesterday as a habitual offender – and he must stay behind bars for at least six years before he can be eligible for parole. DeTaege was arrested July 15th after he broke into a business in Ireton Iowa.
He was ordered to pay $8,500 dollars in restitution to his victims in Sioux County. DeTaege has also been convicted in Wisconsin and Oklahoma. According to online court records, his Wisconsin convictions include burglaries in Chippewa, Sauk, Iowa, and Lafayette counties dating back to 2000.
