Sunday State Sports Briefs: Packers, Jaguars missing several key players for Sunday's game

Wisconsin Sports
-- Both teams are missing significant players as the Jacksonville Jaguars invade Lambeau Field today.

GREEN BAY - Both teams are missing significant players as the Jacksonville Jaguars invade Lambeau Field today.

Packer defensive back Charles Woodson is expected to miss at least six weeks with a broken collarbone, the second time he’s suffered that injury in his career. Jaguar quarterback Blaine Gabbert practiced yesterday and is hoping to play, but running back Maurice Jones-Drew is definitely out. The Packer defense should be okay. Even with Gabbert and Jones-Drew in the lineup, Jacksonville is the worst statistical offense in the NFL. The Green Bay ground game has been very weak since Cedric Benson went down with an injury, but Jacksonville is 29th among the 32 teams in stopping the run. They’ll have a chance to try to do just that in today’s contest with a 12 noon kickoff.

The all-important point guard position for the University of Wisconsin men's basketball team will fall to redshirt freshman George Marshall this season. Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan had been counting on junior Josh Gasser to do the job, but he suffered a knee injury in practice yesterday and is lost for the season. Gasser had started 66 games the last two seasons and was poised to take over for the graduating Jordan Taylor. He will have two years of eligibility remaining when he comes back. The Badgers had already lost starting forward Mike Bruesewitz with a leg injury. He is expected to be out four to six weeks, missing several games at the start of the season.
