EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier says one of the areas they will work on this week in practice is blitz pickup by the offensive line and quarterback.
Frazier fears that Tampa Bay's defense may have shown other teams a way to find some vulnerabilities in the Vikings offense during last Thursday's 36-17 loss to the Buccaneers. Frazier says the offensive line has to do a better job of adjusting, while the quarterback has to make better choices in throwing the ball downfield. Minnesota is at Seattle on Sunday. The Vikes are currently tied with Green Bay for second place in the NFC North at 5-3. Chicago leads the division at 6-1. __________________________________________________________________________
University of Minnesota true freshman quarterback Phillip Nelson threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns as Minnesota beat Purdue 44-28 on Saturday at TCF Bank Stadium. Donnell Kirkwood ran for 134 yards for the Golden Gophers, who improved to 1-3 in Big Ten play and 5-3 overall. Nelson was 15-for-17 passing in the first half. The Gophers host Michigan this week.

The tenth-ranked University of Minnesota volleyball team played at Williams Arena for the only time this season and came away with a straight set victory over Illinois yesterday. The Golden Gophers are now 19-4 on the season, 10-2 in the Big Ten. Minnesota is at No. 1 Penn State this Friday and at 20th-ranked Ohio State on Sunday.

University of Minnesota freshman goaltender Alex Wilcox of St. Paul turned in his first career shutout and the Golden Gophers skated by Canisius 1-0 yesterday in Minneapolis. Sophomore Kyle Rau of Eden Prairie scored the game's lone goal 12-seconds into the games. Minnesota is 4-1 overall and will play a pair of games against Minnesota State-Mankato this weekend. __________________________________________________________________________
The NHL lockout has claimed more regular-season games. The league announced Friday all games through November 30th would be canceled due to the ongoing labor stalemate. The NHL recently rejected three union counterproposals to its offer of a 50-50 revenue split. No further talks are scheduled. The Minnesota Wild was to have hosted the Washington Capitals tonight in St. Paul. Instead, the Xcel Energy Center will sit empty.

The Timberwolves waived forward Mike Harris and center Chris Johnson on Saturday to get to the NBA maximum of 15 players. The T'wolves finished the preseason 5-and-2. They open up the regular season on Friday at home against the Sacramento Kings.
