-- A man accused of killing his mother in the Fox Valley is scheduled to go on trial today.

APPLETON - A man accused of killing his mother in the Fox Valley is scheduled to go on trial today.

35-year-old Randal Rosenthal of Brillion is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the slaying of 52-year-old Kathleen Remter of Forest Junction. Authorities said Rosenthal shot his mother, and dumped her body in the Fox River – where she was found in July of last year near Kaukauna. Investigators said DNA tests turned up blood on jeans the defendant wore that day. But in May, the defense said it was trying to show that somebody else could have killed Remter. A defense lawyer said the woman had told people she felt she was being stalked. The trial is scheduled to last all week in Outagamie County Circuit Court.

A Milwaukee woman and her boyfriend are due back in court a week from today in the death of the woman’s five-year-old son. 20-year-old Alyssa Banda is charged with child abuse causing death. 23-year-old Marcus Colin is charged with the same crime, plus reckless child abuse and misdemeanor bail jumping. Both made initial court appearances in Milwaukee during the weekend. Five-year-old Jayden Banda died October 19th, after being injured earlier this month. Court officials say the youngster’s body was covered with bruises – and if the boy had survived, one of his legs would have been amputated. Colin is being held on a 75-thousand-dollar bond, and Alyssa Banda has a 10-thousand-dollar bond. At their next court appearance, a judge will decide if there’s enough evidence to order the two to stand trial.
