County Board approves new committee members

One might say Tuesday’s Pierce County Board of Supervisors meeting was just an opening act for the board’s Nov. 13 meeting.

One might say Tuesday’s Pierce County Board of Supervisors meeting was just an opening act for the board’s Nov. 13 meeting.

That’s because the supervisors during their 30-minute meeting took action on only two items: the elections of Ruth Wood to the agriculture and extension committee, and Michael Kahlow to the human services board--and spent the rest of the time hearing first readings on resolutions and ordinances to get action on Nov. 13.

Wood and Kahlow will succeed Jim Ross, who stepped down from both committees to devote more time to finding a solution to the Pierce County Jail.

“It is my belief that substantial effort and learning as well as stewardship is to be required to address the issue of the Pierce County Jail,” Ross wrote to Board Chairman Jeff Holst. Ross is the chairman of the law enforcement committee.

“This long overdue problem, one I do not take lightly nor do I feel there is an easy answer for, will be reviewed to the best of my ability.”
