Scout soars toward Eagle with Ellsworth park sign

A new sign denoting East End Park and indicating it was established in 1912 now stands along its main walkway, part of Spencer Redding’s quest to become an Eagle Scout

In the dozen years he’s been in Scouting, Spencer Redding’s latest effort is clearly his biggest.

Thursday, the 17-year-old Redding reviewed the activities and events in which he’s participated since joining the organization at age five. None can quite compare to the project he brought to reality last month in Ellsworth’s East End Park.

A new sign denoting the park and indicating it was established in 1912 now stands along its main walkway, part of Redding’s quest to become an Eagle Scout.

“It’s been my long-term goal,” he said of the distinction, remembering being welcomed into the local Boy Scout troop by, among others, Seth McAffey, who’s an Eagle.
