Cheryl Regenscheid and Michelle Bauer went on separate trips to New York City late last month, for pleasure in the case of the former and business meetings by the latter. Both just happened to be there when Hurricane Sandy struck the East Coast.

“I’d heard it was coming, but at that time they were unsure of its path,” Regenscheid said Friday at Ellsworth Chiropractic Clinic, where she’s a patient of Dr. Gayle Nissen and where Bauer operates New Directions Acupuncture.

Although neither suffered the brunt of the hurricane’s effects, it did turn their getaways into more of an adventure than they’d expected.
