Badger women win a shutout, men lose in a shutout

MADISON - The fortunes for the University of Wisconsin hockey teams Saturday were dramatically different.
Colorado College blanked the Wisconsin men’s hockey team Saturday 3-0, taking a weekend sweep of the WCHA series at Kohl Center in front of over 10,000 fans. The Badgers outshot the Tigers 33-22, but couldn’t find the net on winning goalie Joe Howe. Colorado College scored twice in the first period and was never threatened the rest of the way. Wisconsin goalie Joel Rumpel made 19 saves and Mark Zengerle’s five-game point scoring streak was ended after leaving the game due to an injury to his hand He will be out for the next 5-6 weeks. The Badger record falls to 1-4-1, including 1-2-1 in conference play. UW is off next weekend and plays at Minnesota Nov. 16-17.
Nobody has scored on the Wisconsin women’s hockey team and its goalie Alex Rigsby in the last 189 minutes of play. Rigsby was perfect again Saturday afternoon as the Badgers blanked Minnesota State 5-0 at LaBahn Arena. Wisconsin’s record improves to 7-3-2 with the weekend sweep. Rigsby had 22 saves. Brianna Decker scored two of Wisconsin’s goals. Also finding the net for the Badgers were Alev Kelter, Katarina Zgraja and Blayre Turnbull. Wisconsin outshot the Mavericks 40-22.
