Spriggle to serve another term on FACT board

Chloe Spriggle, a high school senior living in Ellsworth, was recently selected to serve a third term on the FACT Youth Board of Directors.

FACT (Fighting Against Corporate Tobacco) is Wisconsin’s youth-driven tobacco prevention program with over 5,500 members statewide. During her term, Spriggle will take action through creative activities designed to educate their peers on how the tobacco industry targets teens.

As a FACT Board Member, Spriggle will recruit new members, implement activities, and meet with her local elected officials. She also will be instrumental in the creation of a public education campaign. This campaign will expose how the tobacco industry uses colorful packaging and candy flavoring to sell their tobacco products.

“I joined FACT because I want to make a difference in my community and I feel like I am,” Spriggle said.

Since FACT began in 2001, youth like Spriggle have been working tirelessly to reduce tobacco’s burden on Wisconsin youth. Over the last 10 years, the smoking rate among Wisconsin high school youth fell 46 percent.

However, FACT’s job isn’t over. The tobacco industry continues to market to youth. An estimated one in five Wisconsin high school youth are still hooked on their deadly products. That’s a statistic FACT members are committed to reducing.

Spriggle said, “I have loved being on this board for the past two years and I look forward to another year representing the Ellsworth area on this statewide board and continuing the fight against Big Tobacco.”

FACT is part of the Department of Health Service’s statewide tobacco prevention efforts and is locally coordinated by the Western Wiscsonsin Working for Tobacco Free Living. For more information on FACT, visit www.fightwithFACT.com.
