Slippery road conditions cause accidents

Saturday morning saw a rash of accidents around Pierce County due to slippery road conditions.

An accident was reported at 7:19 a.m., when a 2002 Ford Explorer driven by Jeffrey Williams, 46, Hager City, rolled over on Hwy. 35, near 1180th Street in the Town of Oak Grove. The Explorer was located approximately 20-30 feet off the roadway on its roof down a steep embankment. Williams was found out of the vehicle, uninjured. The vehicle had moderate to severe damage.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department was assisted on scene by Prescott Ambulance and Dick’s Auto Body and Towing.

Another accident happened at 11:17 a.m., when there was a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Hwy. 65 and 770th Avenue in the Town of River Falls. A 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Gary Crowe, 58, River Falls, was southbound on 65, waiting for traffic to clear to make a left turn onto 770th. While waiting, Crowe was rear ended by a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Logan Schlosser, 21, Durand. The Cavalier was then pushed into the northbound lane of 65, where it collided head-on with a 2000 Chevy Silverado driven by Richard Collins, 34, Red Wing. Collins had a passenger in the car who had to be transported to Regions Hospital. Her name was not identified in the news release.

All vehicles had to be towed from the scene due to damage caused from the crash. Initial investigations showed the cause was due to inattentive driving; however, Deputy Adam Olson said the accident remained under investigation early this week.

Assisting on scene were the River Falls Fire Department, River Falls Ambulance Service, River Falls Police Department, Pierce County Highway Department and Jerry’s Towing.

Olson said deputies were dispatched to five other crashes during the early-to-mid-morning hours Saturday. They remind the motoring public to take their time traveling and slow down. No injuries were reported in any of the crashes.
