GREEN BAY - The Green Bay Packers will start practicing today for their Sunday night contest against the Giants at New York.
The weather’s about to get colder in the northern part of the country – and that means teams will be coughing up the ball more often. The Elias Sports Bureau said 11 NFL teams – including the Packers and Giants – commit an average of one-point-eight-four turnovers in their December and January games. That’s much higher than in September and October, when they commit under one-point-six miscues per outing.
Last January, the Giants won the turnover battle when they eliminated the Packers in a second-round playoff game at Lambeau Field. The Giants recovered three Green Bay fumbles and intercepted an Aaron Rodgers pass in their 37-20 victory – while the Packers had only one takeaway. Head Coach Mike McCarthy devotes at least part of every practice to hanging onto the ball. Quarterbacks coach Ben McAdoo says it’s a teachable skill – and fundaments are directly involved.
