Wisconsin State Business Briefs: Nassco Inc. buying Madison-based business

NEW BERLIN - Acquiring a Madison-based business will let New Berlin’s Nassco Incorporated expand its product offerings, services and help it assume a higher business profile in Wisconsin.

Nassco announced it was buying janitorial supplies distributor Messner Incorporated this week. Nassco is a third-generation family business serving customers in Wisconsin and northern Illinois. It was founded in 1955. The Madison location on East Washington Avenue will operated as a branch of Nassco.

A state appeals court ruled today that an electronics-maker could be liable for defective equipment that was supplied to a manufacturer of farm tractors in Racine. The Second District Appellate Court in Waukesha reversed a circuit court ruling from Racine County, which said that Ametek

Incorporated did not have to pay damages to CNH. The tractor company accused Ametek of providing defective starters for the CNH B-6 tractor line in 2006-and-’07. The faulty starters led to a worldwide recall of the tractors. Ametek said CNH knew the starters were faulty, but kept using them anyway. A circuit judge in Racine County agreed, and said CNH was not entitled to damages. But today, the appellate court reversed the ruling. It said a jury could find that Ametek caused all-or-none of the CNH recall costs, depending on how the jurors might interpret CNH’s actions.
