UWSP considering ban on alcohol consumption in dorms

Wisconsin News
-- In an effort to control alcohol use on the UW-Stevens Point campus, school officials are considering a ban on alcohol consumption – including students who are of legal drinking age.

STEVENS POINT - In an effort to control alcohol use on the UW-Stevens Point campus, school officials are considering a ban on alcohol consumption – including students who are of legal drinking age.

Last March a student drowned in the Wisconsin River after a night of drinking. Eric Duffey was celebrating his 21st birthday when he disappeared after leaving a Stevens Point bar. He body was found two days later.

University officials say they are working with city leaders on finding new approaches to limit how much alcohol students consume. So far, options on the table do not include kicking a student out of school for too many related offenses, but Stevens Point police say that might be worth consideration, too.
