Twenty area youths will compete in the finals of the Eau Claire Children’s Theatre’s (ECCT) ninth annual “Starquest” competition this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at The Oxford, 1814 Oxford Ave., Eau Claire.

ELMWOOD--Twenty area youths will compete in the finals of the Eau Claire Children’s Theatre’s (ECCT) ninth annual “Starquest” competition this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at The Oxford, 1814 Oxford Ave., Eau Claire.

Included will be Terressa Kern, age 13, a seventh grader at Elmwood Middle School in the 13 and under category.

Inspired by the popular TV show “American Idol,” the event is a vocal competition for youths ages 18 and under. Forty area youths entered this year’s contest and competed in the preliminary round on Nov. 10.

The competition, sponsored in part by Clear Channel Radio and Smiles in Motion, is open to youth in two categories, ages 14-18 and ages 13 and under, and performers were judged on vocal ability, presentation and professionalism by a panel of area music and theatre professionals.

Ten finalists in each category were chosen to compete at the finals. At the event, a new panel of judges will determine a winner and runner-up in each category.

Miss Wisconsin 2012 Kate Gordon will emcee Starquest 2012. Last year’s Starquest winners, Matt Lace, a 17-year-old senior at Memorial High School, and 12-year-old Grace Pichler, a seventh grader who is home schooled, are also scheduled to perform.

Reserved seating tickets for Starquest 2012 are now on sale. Tickets are $8 for youth/students and $12 for adults/seniors, and may be ordered online at www.ecct.org or by calling ECCT at 715-839-8877. Tickets will also be available at the door.
