Salvation Army Service Unit receives donation

The Pierce County Salvation Army Service Unit was the recipient of a large donation from the Clifford and Silvy Horken estate.

The foresight of one couple will benefit our community for years to come. The Pierce County Salvation Army Service Unit was the recipient of a generous bequest made possible by planned giving on the part of Clifford and Silvy Horken in the amount of $28,380.

A Horken Donation Fund account has been established and a committee formed to oversee the account, review grant requests, and make awards to support projects deemed most beneficial in serving the needs of people in crisis in Pierce County. Requests for funding may be mailed to Pierce County Salvation Army, P.O. Box 416, Ellsworth, Wis., 54011.

Planned giving to The Salvation Army provides benefits for both gift donors and The Salvation Army. The most popular gift is a charitable bequest in a will or living trust. Planned giving also includes, but is not limited to, gift annuities, trusts, stock and life insurance policies. The beauty of planned giving is that it is arranged by the benefactor during his or her lifetime who maintains control and often reaps the benefits of the gift.
