U men's hoops team voted into Top 25, Hollins Player of the Week

-- The University of Minnesota men's basketball team is ranked in the the Top 25 for the first time this season.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota men's basketball team is ranked in the the Top 25 for the first time this season.

The 6-1 Golden Gophers are number 21 in this week's AP college basketball poll - but failed to make the new USA Today coaches poll. The Gophers gained some national attention with victories over Memphis and Stanford in the Battle 4 Atlantis holiday tournament last weekend in the Bahamas. The Gophers play at Florida State tonight. Tip off is set for 6:15 p.m. (CT)

University of Minnesota point guard Andre Hollins was named Big Ten Player of the Week after averaging 20.3 points per game over a three game stretch in the Battle for Atlantis tournament last week. Hollins scored a career-high 41 points in Friday's win over Memphis and he made the game-winning free throws in Saturday's 3 point win over Stanford. The Sophomore guard is second on the team in scoring averaing 14 points per game this season and has twice as many assists as anyone else on the team averaging 4 assists per game.
