(Tallahasse, FL) -- The University of Minnesota men's basketball team improved to 7-1 with a 77-68 win at Florida State in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
Joe Coleman led the 21st-ranked Gophers with 16 points, Rodney Williams had 14, Austin Hollins scored 13 and Andre Hollins added 12. Minnesota held the Seminoles to just under 38-percent shooting and Elliot Eliason grabbed a career-high ten rebounds. Terrance Shannon paced Florida State with 14 points and 11 boards.
Minnesota's win along with wins by Michigan over North Carolina State, Nebraska over Wake Forest, Indiana over North Carolina gave the Big Ten a 4-2 lead on the first night of the Challenge, which concludes this evening. Only Iowa and Northwestern lost last evening.
The win was career victory 497 for Minnesota head coach Tubby Smith. His Gophers host North Florida Saturday afternoon at Williams Arena.
