SVE wrestlers win first dual meet of season
The No. 9 ranked Spring Valley/Elmwood wrestling team began it's 2012-13 season with a big 66-9 non-conference win over Unity Thursday.
SPRING VALLEY - The No. 9 ranked Spring Valley/Elmwood wrestling team began it's 2012-13 season with a big 66-9 non-conference win over Unity Thursday.
The Redbirds started four freshmen in their line-up and all four were victorious in their very first high school varsity matches.
Andrew Webb won at 103 pounds by a 12-1 major decision over the Eagles' Derek Johnson. Logan Newton pinned Jarrett Davison in 2:36 at 120; Jed Schlegel won 7-1 over Tevin Anderson and Ethan Hofacker pinned Colin Loehr in :53 seconds.
Other SVE winners were Tyler Berg by tech. fall at 126; Mitch Thompson by pin at 132; Zach Newton by fall at 145; Jaron Turner by pin at 152; Trent Miller via pinfall at 160 and Chris Craft also by pin at 195. Derek Huebel and Keven Fesenmaier received forfeits at 113 and 170 respectively. The Redbirds built up a 66-0 lead before the last two matches.
Spring Valley/Elmwood will wrestle in the Dick Shiels Invitational this Saturday in Faribault, Minn.
