Oak Grove celebrates new hall with open house

TOWN OF OAK GROVE—Residents celebrated the new Oak Grove Town Hall with an open house Sunday.

Town Clerk Jim Allen said the new building houses a satellite Prescott Fire Department station and an office for sheriff’s department deputies when they’re in the area, as well as town purposes. Ross and Associates of River Falls was the general contractor for the construction project, which began this summer and took approximately four months to complete.

A building fund in past years, with $10,000 added to it annually, plus the use of impact fees enabled the town to avoid taking out loans and meant the necessary funding was available for the $498,465 structure, Allen said.

“Cash was paid for it,” he said of the new premises, built atop a cement slab and featuring propane heat.

The PFD doesn’t pay for its use of the property, at N4939 1100th St. (near the intersection of CTH QQ and Hwy. 35), he said, but does cover the costs of the department’s own insurance and equipment plus utilities. There are presently three fire vehicles in the station’s bay, with room for four. Additionally, a high-capacity well and pump are on-site so fire trucks can fill up and leave for emergencies directly from the satellite station instead of having to go to Prescott for water.

As for the town’s part, furniture was brought from county surplus, along with benches and other items from the former town hall, when the town board moved into the new facility in mid-October, the clerk said. He estimated its new meeting room alone is four times the size of the entire predecessor building.
