Golden Gopher gals still unbeaten as they top Wisconsin 4-1
Regional Sports-- A four-goal explosion in the second period was enough to give University of Minnesota's women's hockey team a 4-1 victory over the Wisconsin women’s hockey team Saturday.
MINNEAPOLIS - A four-goal explosion in the second period was enough to give University of Minnesota's women's hockey team a 4-1 victory over the Wisconsin women’s hockey team Saturday.
The Golden Gophers remain undefeated at 15-0-0 and ranked number-one in the country. A full house of over 3,400 fans stuffed Ridder Arena to watch the victory. Amanda Kessel had a goal and an assist for the U. Sarah Davis, Maryanne Menefee, Becky Kortum also scored for Minnesota and Hannah Brandt had two assists. Gopher goalie Noora Raty made 22 saves.
Alex Rigsby made a season-high 37 saves in the loss, which dropped Wisconsin’s record to 10-5-2, including 6-5-2-2 in the WCHA. Brianna Decker scored Wisconsin’s only goal with a little over six and a half minutes remaining.
The Badgers will try to end the Gophers’ 25-game winning streak in a 2 p.m. game today at Ridder Arena.
