(St. Paul, MN) -- Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson is proposing legislation to better protect vulnerable adults under the care of guardians.
It includes an improved background check process for guardians and conservators, and provides stronger financial safeguards for vulnerable adults. The proposed law would require background checks be conducted every two years, instead of every five years as current law requires.
Between 1990 and 2010, officials identified hundreds of allegations of physical abuse and financial exploitation by guardians in 45 states.
