EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Despite clear struggles from quarterback Christian Ponder in recent weeks, Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier says he has not been close to benching the second-year signal-caller.

Frazier told reporters yesterday that he believes Ponder is capable of playing winning football for the Vikings. Frazier says the fact Ponder had the team off to a 5-2 start proves to him that the Florida State product is a winning player.

The Vikings are now 6-and-6 and host Chicago on Sunday at the Metrodome.
