Panthers lose home opener to Barron

Ellsworth High School's girls' basketball team lost its home opener Tuesday 51-22 to Barron.
The Golden Bears led 16-6 at the end of the first quarter and 32-13 at halftime. They held the Panthers to just two points in the third quarter while scoring 11. EHS struggled with turnovers against the Bears' aggressive defense.
More than seven players scored for the Panthers but Michaela DeGross and Kelsey Betthauser scored five points to lead the team and Katelyn Kannel finished with four points. Barron's Afton Kuehndorf led all scorers with 14 points.
EHS drops to 1-3 overall. They play at Amery on Friday.
