GREEN BAY - The Green Bay Packers are apparently giving Ryan Grant a second chance to produce.

ESPN-Milwaukee says the Packers have signed the veteran running back after a workout this morning – and they were expected to announce it before their late morning practice. The Packers have a big need at the tailback spot, after James Starks injured his right knee last Sunday against Minnesota. Media reports say he could be out for the rest of the season. Grant will turn 30 on Sunday, and he could very well be playing against the Detroit Lions on the night of his birthday.

Grant played for the Pack from 2007 through last season, but the team did not re-sign him. He joined the Washington Redskins, but he only played in one game before he was cut. He’s been out of football for almost three months. Grant split the running back spot with Starks a year ago – and Grant ran for 559 yards and two touchdowns, and he caught 19 passes for another 268 yards. In his five seasons in Green Bay, Grant ran for four-thousand-16 yards with 25 touchdowns.
