The Ellsworth Village Board Monday approved the village’s 2013 budget and struck down an ordinance prohibiting the selling of beer or other intoxicating beverages inside the Pierce County Fairgrounds.

The budget and its amendments were adopted unanimously, as was the vote to remove Ordinance 629 from the village code which prevents the sale of “prohibiting intoxicating liquor or fermented malt beverage in an open container in or upon the P.C. Fairgrounds during the period of the annual Pierce County Fair.“

The ordinance was put into the village code in 1996 at the request of the Pierce County Fair Board and has been removed at their request as well. The fair board plans to have a “social garden,” where beer could presumably be sold at next year’s fair.

No action was taken on wastewater treatment plant change orders, and another meeting between the water and sewer committee and representatives from Rice Lake Construction and Foth Engineering will be taking place on Jan. 2, 2013.

In other board action, the board unanimously approved TID No. 10 financing to the Dan Acker project at the Midway property, which is currently under construction. The total amount requested so far is $177,303.10 and Acker can receive a maximum of $300,000 within the TID as part of the developer’s agreement.

The board also approved a Class B retailer’s license to the Ellsworth Fire Association for its annual chicken feed, scheduled for March 23, 2013, and gave the salary and labor committee the authority to finalize a revised village personnel handbook along with wages and benefit for non-union employees for 2013.

The board went into closed session to discuss topics such as TID 10 development, Crossing Meadows Business Park and other proposed developments. The board came out of closed session and took no action.
