EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin's season came to an end on Wednesday when the team decided to place him on the Injured Reserve List.

Harvin, who was in the midst of a breakout season, injured his ankle Week Nine against the Seahawks. Through nine games, the fourth-year wide out had 62 catches for 677 yards and three touchdowns. The most catches Harvin had previously was 87 in 16 games in 2011. Minnesota is currently clinging onto playoff hopes at 6-6 along with three other teams in the NFC. The final wild card spot is held by the Seahawks at 7-5. The Vikings host the Bears Sunday afternoon.

Former T-Wolves star Kevin Garnett scored 18 points and grabbed ten rebounds to lead his Boston Celtics past his former club Minnesota 104-94 last night in Boston. The Wolves held a 51-47 halftime lead, but were outscored by 11 in a decisive third quarter. Kevin Love had 19 points and 13 rebounds to pace Minnesota. Six Timberwolves scored in double figures, including Nikola Pekovic who had 14 points and nine rebounds. Minnesota hosts Cleveland tomorrow night at the Target Center.

The University of Minnesota women's basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 74-51 win last night over Denver University at Williams Arena. Lakeville's Rachel Banham scored 21 points to lead Minnesota. Banham added a career high seven assists and seven rebounds. Micaella Riche added 19 points and six rebounds for the Gophers, who are now 7-3.

Darrell Hazell is the new head football coach of the Purdue Boilermakers. Hazell spent the last two seasons at Kent State, leading the Golden Flashes to a 16-9 record. This year's team was 11-2 and lost to Northern Illinois in the Mid-American Conference Championship Game. Hazell replaces Danny Hope, who was fired despite a three-game winning streak to end the regular season that saw the team finish 6-6 and earn a berth in the Heart of Dallas Bowl against Oklahoma State. Hope was 22-27 in four years at Purdue. The Golden Gophers, incidentally, are not scheduled to play against Purdue in either 2013 or 2014 as part of the rotating Big Ten divisional football schedule. The schedule could change, however, with the pending additions of Maryland and Rutgers to the league, which will undoubtedly require some things to be switched, including the possibility that the divisional alignments change.

NHL labor talks continued Wednesday as the two sides met off and on throughout the day for more than eight hours. The sides have now met for more than 16 hours in the last two days as they continue to work toward a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. Negotiations will continue on Thursday, according to the NHL Players' Association. The current work stoppage has already forced the cancellation of 422 regular season games, the Winter Classic and All-Star Weekend. The Wild were to have played at Phoenix last night in what would have been regular season game No. 25 for Minnesota.
