COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Thousands of Minnesotans may have been impacted by a recent data security breach at Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company.
Reports say the personal information of more than 98-thousand Minnesota residents may have been released during the incident, which was discovered back in October. Nationwide Mutual, based in Columbus, Ohio, says someone attacked its computer network, likely stealing information from people who asked for quotes -- including names, birth dates, social security numbers and driver's license information.
The insurance company is offering the overall 1.1 million people impacted free identity theft protection for one year and free credit monitoring.
