UW women's hoops team wins in overtime

MADISON - The University of Wisconsin women have a three-game winning streak, after beating Florida Atlantic 82-73 in overtime last night in Madison.

Morgan Paige hit a pair of free throws with nine seconds left to send the game to OT – and the Badgers then outscored Florida Atlantic 13-4 in the extra period. The game had 10 ties and 10 lead changes, and Wisconsin led by as many as nine.

Paige, the Badgers’ leading scorer, had 28 points. Jacki Gulczynski had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. The 82 points were the most for the Badgers since November of 2010 against Kansas. Breana Turner scored 25 for Florida Atlantic, which dropped to 5-4. Wisconsin improved to 6-3, and will host Eastern Illinois on Saturday.

Badgers’ guard Nicole Bauman has been named the Big Ten’s co-freshman-of-the-week. She shared the honor with Taylor Manuel of Purdue. Bauman scored a season-high 16 points against Marquette last Wednesday night – and she made two free throws with 14 seconds left to seal her team’s three-point victory. Bauman is the first Badger to receive her league’s weekly freshman award since Taylor Wurtz in January of 2010.
