Ellsworth man struck by vehicle, driver arrested

A 72-year-old Ellsworth man was struck by a car early Saturday at E. Main and Wallace streets near Cenex in Ellsworth.

When officers arrived, Robert L. Ferlita was said to be conscious and conversing, but complaining of pain to his right leg and somewhat confused.

The driver of the vehicle, Justin J. Witt, 20, Newport, Minn., stopped. Witt was taken into custody by the Ellsworth Police Department a short time later for cause injury/operating while intoxicated, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

Ferlita was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul by Ellsworth Area Ambulance Service and was reported to be in stable condition Monday.
